bramman tamil movie

Bramman is a 2014 Tamil movie directed by Socrates, starring M. Sasikumar and Lavanya Tripathi in the lead roles. It has cinematography by Jomon T. John.
It is basically a film on friendship and a man’s passion for a single screen theatre. Bramman is laced with romance, comedy, action and sentiments. However, there are too many speed breakers due to songs thrust into the narration and the pace slackens especially in the first half. The movie picks up in the post interval with a well worked out climax that is sure to appeal to the family audiences. Shiva (Sasikumar) is a happy guy living with his parents, younger sister and brother. He grew up loving cinema, and in his childhood used to go to the local theatre with his buddy Kumar (Naveen Chandra), another film crazy guy. But due to circumstances they are separated. Siva grows up and takes a local theatre on lease, where he plays second run films while his best friend becomes a noted director. Again due to circumstances, Shiva goes to Chennai in search of his long lost friend for a favour, which changes his life. The actual story takes place only in the second half, while the period upto interval is loaded with comedy, love track and an action scene. The entertainment elements are thrust into the narration, without any justification. Sasikumar is given a makeover with designer clothes and songs in foreign locations and an introductory kuthu song that one associates with mass hero stars. Santhanam for a change is fun, especially the scenes in which he is shown running the single screen, where no new films are released. He does not have any double entendre dialogues. Sasikumar’s strength is the emotional scenes and his friendship lectures. He is not too comfortable in the song sequences and pokes fun at his own dance movements in the kuthu song. Lavanya is there for the songs and Soori comes briefly in the second half. Padmapriya does an item number. Devi Sri Prasad’s music is ok, with the En Uyirin Uyiraga.. which he sings with Anitha quite catchy. On the whole Bramman is passable commercial entertainer with all essential ingredients that will keep the pot boiling.
